Do not expect to be accepted by the first agency you try, do try all the agencies you think may be applicable to the types of work you are interested in doing

Never pay up front to join an agency or anyone that wants to promote you, an agency or manager will make their money from work they find you

5
Before agreeing on a shoot make sure you know exactly what is required, if you are unsure of a term used, ask them to explain

Make sure you know where the shoot is going to take place, how long the shoot is expected to last, always agree price, travel details and accommodation (if required) before the shoot (check any details i.e. that the accommodation, studio is booked etc.)

7
If you have doubts about a shoot, ask for more information, if after that you are still unsure, decline the offer

8
Always try to be professional in attitude, even if others don’t

9
If you're planning to have your own web site, consider registering your own domain name, this can save a lot of time and hassle if for any reason you wish to change your web designer or hosting service, Just remember that some of the details used to register a domain name may be made public, so anyone doing a Domain Name search or Domain Name lookup, may be able to see some of those details (i.e. registrants name, address, telephone number)

Note
If you register a UK Domain name (i.e. www.mydomainname.co.uk) as a person (not as a business) then you can request that your personal details are not listed publicly

If you really need to provide means for people to contact you by post, get a P.O. Box

Note
Anyone can request the full address details of a post office box number!

Note: TFP / PFT (Time For Prints or Prints For Time)

All models are likely to be offered TFP by a photographer, basically it is the model giving her time at a shoot in exchange for a specified number of prints or CD from the shoot

Sound great? it would be if it was only good photographers offering TFP, unfortunately every guy with a camera seems to be offering it, so although I would not advise any model to dismiss TFP offhand, the quality of the photographers work is paramount when considering an offer

For a model it is a really bad idea to advertise that you are looking for, or will do TFP work, you will probably be inundated with unsuitable offers, and who is likely to pay you if they know you will model for free. It is far better for you to search for photographer/s whose work you admire and contact them directly to see if they would be interested in working on a TFP basis

Pros
It could provide valuable experience

A source of work for use in a printed & digital, portfolio and web site

Cons
None of the above "pros" will be of any value unless the photographer is at least competent

The quality of the photographers work is paramount when considering an offer

Beware any restrictions of use
